All of us have seen beautiful colours of a rainbow in a rainy season. These colours arise when light enters water droplets. Hence reflection, refraction & dispersion of light occurs in water droplets. There is a science behind it. If you through a stone upwards, it reaches a certain height and then falls downwards. Just as an apple falls on the earth. This happens due to the gravitational force. The earth has a greater mass. Therefore, it has a greater gravitational force. All such things which happen in nature have a scientific explanation. But, science sometimes creates fun. We must understand the phenomenon. Thus, we can handle it positively.
Here, we shall see some phenomenon occurring due to chemical reactions.
A notorious student in a school laboratory takes hydrogen peroxide in a test tube. He mixes up potassium Iodide solution to it. To his surprise, a fountain of foam rushes out and falls on the heads of neighbouring girl students. The laboratory teacher comes and scolds the student.
A school teacher explains the reaction between potassium thiocyanate & ferric chloride. He rubs potassium thiocyanate on his hand. Takes a knife from ferric chloride solution. Scratch the knife on hand. All students are afraid to see blood on the hand. It’s fake blood. A reaction between Fe (III) & thiocyanate ion.
A college teacher explains the funny reaction between aluminium & Mercury. He places mercury on Aluminum metal. Infact, it is amalgamation reaction. As the reaction proceeds, the threads grows up. Grows in the air about a foot high. Of course, a marvellous reaction.
A college student thinks himself as a scientist. Hence, tries everything in the laboratory. Unknowingly, mixes magnesium metal with potassium permanganate. Thus, a violent reaction damages his head. He is now in the hospital.
A teacher explains the carbylamine test to the students. A test for primary amine. Hence, mixes aniline, potassium hydroxide & chloroform. On heating the mixture, the foul smell makes the teacher faint. Students help & take him to the restroom.
Therefore, the students should not perform these test without proper guidance & precautions.
