Discovery of radioactivity
Marie Sklodowska & her husband Pierre Curie choose the mineral Pitchblende. Their laboratory is a shed. A shed with poor facilities. She finds that some rays are coming out from the mineral. Rays emitted from the mineral. At first glance, Marie does not understand what is happening. But, after days of analysis, she reveals an interesting phenomenon. The rays emitted are due to the presence of an unknown element. She gives the name Radium. Hence, the meaning of Radium itself is a ‘Ray’. But, along with this she also finds another element, Polonium. She names this element on the basis of her motherland Poland. She is the first to use the word radioactivity. Radioactivity for the emitted radiation. Therefore, she is awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. But, she donates the money for the development of science & for charity.
Meanwhile, her husband dies in a road accident. A shocking incident for her.
Use of radioactivity in medical science.
A new era of medical knowledge begins. Thus, the beginning of radiotherapy. Radioactive rays are now useful to cure diseases. Diseases such as cancers. They are using it in the development of X- rays in surgery. Thus, she is happy to help mankind.
Madame Curie is hardworking & dedicated to science. A wonder woman. She is working day & night with the radioactive element- Radium. And therefore, she dies due to cancer. Cancer develops due to the overexposure of her body to radiation.
This is an inspirational story. Inspiration for hard work. Perseverance, dedication & struggle.
