Have you seen the old movie ‘Twenty thousand leagues under the sea’? It is old but good science fiction and is an adventure novel by French writer Jules Verne. It was around 1870 that they published the book. The author’s imagination in those days was alarming.
In this movie, Captain Nemo constructs a futuristic submarine which roams under the sea at a great depth of twenty thousand leagues. It was a quest for scientific knowledge and an escape from terrestrial civilization because of one or the other reason.
And now, after so many years, this is going to be a reality. The architects are trying to build a similar type of infrastructure as a unique hotel. The architects and sponsoring persons include the king of Jordan- Abdullah, the managing director Tonny Webb & sheikh Hamdan. It’s a queer mission. The only purpose is to enjoy the aquatic life underwater.
Hence, the imagination of the writer Jules Verne will be a reality in a short time.
However, the days are not far when we will see colonies of people living underwater- under the sea & also floating on the water.
The first such hotel- a hotel under the sea is already complete and running. But it’s not as deep as that of twenty thousand leagues.
This hotel is in the Maldives. The hotel is 16 feet below the Indian Ocean. Its name is “Muraka,” which means “coral”.
The most important feature is an underwater bedroom with views of the ocean. But, the cost is very high. Thus, only millionaires can afford to stay.
Now, let us move from the old movie twenty thousand leagues under the sea to the latest movie Avatar.
We have seen the movie Avatar. The message of this is- humans have destroyed mother earth. And now they are ready to ruin other planets’ civilizations.
In short, in the name of progress & development, we are destroying the ecosystem.
But then, what is development? What is progress? What is the meaning of being civilized? Who is more civilized? Are the indigenous people living with nature or the people living in the cities?
Anyhow, this topic is debatable. And one cannot answer it so perfectly.
