Turmeric has been an essential ingredient in Indian kitchens since ancient times. It is a constituent of most of the recipes. Its health benefits were well-known thousands of years ago. Ayurveda-the old- traditional medical system, has given immense importance to such herbs.
Recently, scientists have been researching herbs and herbal medicines around the world.
The scientific study reveals that the active ingredient of turmeric- ‘Curcumin’ can treat dyspepsia.
However, doctors prescribe omeprazole to treat dyspepsia.
Here is an experimental report which suggests that curcumin has equal effectiveness as omeprazole.
Scientists prepared three groups of patients for studies.
The first group
They gave the patients two 250 mg tablets of curcumin four times a day.
The second group
They gave one 20mg omeprazole capsule four times a day.
In the third group, they gave two 250 mg of curcumin and one 20 mg omeprazole capsule four times- a day.
The investigation continued for a month.
The result was exciting. Curcumin and omeprazole were equally effective in curing dyspepsia.
Now, let us try to understand what dyspepsia is. In simple words, dyspepsia means indigestion or stomach upset. It may cause belly pain, nausea, heartburn, or acid reflux.
In Asian countries such as India, Nepal, Thailand and such countries, there are traditional medicines. All such herbal medicines depend on herbs. Many countries have included these herbs in the national list of herbal medicines. These countries have been using them for curing antacids and dyspepsia-like symptoms.
The Ayurveda doctors first examine the nature of the body. They decide which element from ‘Earth, Fire, Wind, Water and Ether’ is excessive. Hence, they prescribe medicine as per the constitution of the body.
Thus, they can cure a person suffering from excess gas and acidity by herbs having a hot nature, such as turmeric.
Still, we need we need much research for such medicines. Food and drug agencies of some countries have not approved the dose of such herbal medicines.
Some pharmacy companies mix piperine (Black pepper) with curcumin to increase absorption. Turmeric has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant health benefits.
As per Ayurveda, it can cure asthma, liver disorder, anorexia, cough, rheumatism and sinusitis, allergies and skin conditions.
However, the world is more inclined towards the ‘Natural Way of Healing.’
Always consult a doctor before taking any medicine.
